Recipe: Strawberry Cake Roll

I’ve been meaning to try baking cake roll for a long time. I just have no guts to do it. Until one day after searching on the internet I decided to try baking one. Found the strawberry cake roll recipe here. This is my first time so it’s obviously not perfect but I am proud to say that it was delicious. It is also my first time to bake a cake using a square pan. It’s actually turned out well. Following the instructions I thought rolling the cake is hard but it was so easy.
Baking and cooking is always an adventure for me. Sometimes it turns out well, sometimes it all goes directly to the trash. But this time, this strawberry cake roll is yummy, at least for me. I like it and will definitely bake one again next time.

Strawberry Cake Roll Recipe:

You will need:

8 large eggs (separated)
1/2 cup granulated sugar
11/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
1/2 cup cake flour
2 teaspoon baking powder
6 pcs strawberries for decorations

150g heavy whip cream
2 tablespoon sugar
4-5 pcs strawberries slice into lengthwise.

Method:

Preheat oven to 350 degrees (175’c)
In a large bowl beat egg yolks. Add sugar, vanilla extract, cake flour, and baking powder. Stir well.
In another large bowl beat egg whites until stiff peaks foam. Fold into the flour mixture.
Pour cake batter into the baking pan and spread evenly.
Bake for about 20 minutes.

Lay a clean kitchen towel flat on the work surface. Sprinkles confectioner sugar.
Flip the cake into a towel and remove the baking sheet slowly.
Using the towel roll cake away from you. Let it cool for a few minutes.

While waiting for the cake to cool:

In a bowl mix whip cream and 2 tbsp sugar using an electric mixer until fluffy.

Unroll cake. Evenly spread whipped cream and arrange sliced strawberries on top of the cake. Cover with more whip cream.
Re-roll the cake.
Put in serving plate and add whipped cream on top of the cake. Decorate with strawberries.
Serve and enjoy!
