Visiting Suomenlinna Sea Fortress

On Monday, we finally visited one of the most famous attractions in Helsinki- Suomenlinna Sea Fortress. I do not know why it took me three years before I could come here. Oh well, it’s worth the wait I think! We do not always visit Helsinki as we live far from the city. But on Monday while the kids spent the day at Linnanmäki hubby and I decided to spend the day in Suomenlinna and spend time at the Esplanadi park later, just relaxing while eating ice cream. It was so sunny and I couldn’t ask for any better weather that day.

How To Get There:

1. Ferry
2. Water bus, Suomenlinna centre quay
3. Water buss, King’s gate quay

How Much Does It Cost:

It costs 7euro per person. The child is free depending on age.

What To Do There:

Visit Museum- there are actually 6 museums in Suomenlinna.
Shopping
Dining- few restaurants are operating on the island.
Visit The Art Gallery
Picnic
Swimming At The Beach

Suomenlinna Attractions:

1. Suomenlinna Church
2. The Courtyard, tomb of Augustine Ehrensvärd
3. Dry Dock
4. The Earthworks and guns of Kustaanmiekka
5. The King’s Gate

The view from the top of the island was amazing. You can see Helsinki city from there. Didn’t know they have a small beach there also where you can swim and sunbathe. So many people went swimming and enjoying the summer.

We were planning to come there again someday maybe go swimming or having a picnic in the park. We really enjoyed our visit and it was worth the effort walking around on a hot day!
